The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap - July 8th, 2021 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey, there Questers, it is July 8th. This is episode 394 and we have a fantastic Mentorship Quest quote for you today by the incredibly famous Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Mr. Carl Jung.

Shi:

He says, "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."

Kay:

Now, I love this quote and we will dive into it, but just have to do a little bit of family excitement here because when we were kids and we got tasked with doing a geological report...We're not related to Carl Jung but what we did find now is that our maiden last name is Young, and our ancestry is from Germany. In the late 1800s when our great-great-grandfather came on over the boat through Ellis Island in New York, his last name German spelling of Jung J-U-N-G was changed over to Young Y-O-U-N-G to have a more American feel. So, we actually share a maiden last name with Mr. Carl Jung.

Shi:

We also share a fascination for studying, I think, humans and psychology and the inner workings of all of the different expressions of personality and humanity, which is so amazing. The fact that he aligns it here with this chemical substance imagery, and that we're able to understand it. I think many of us are starting to realize more and more the idea that as above so below and what happens in the tiniest cells of our body, those fractal patterns are expressed in the trunks of trees and the patterns of the galaxy. So, it's no wonder to think about what kind of reactions and exchanges that we see in any kind of level of the universe can be reflected within humanity and within the human race in a similar fashion.

Kay:

I mean, if two hydrogen chemicals are just beep-bopping, two little molecules are beep-bopping along in their little hydrogen space and an oxygen molecule comes along and decides to attach to two of those hydrogen molecules, you get a water molecule and it takes two gases and creates a liquid, which is so cool. So, it's a similar thing. When you get these two personalities to come along together if there is any reaction, he doesn't say positive or negative, he just says any reaction, both are transformed. Now, in the case of hydrogen, the two hydrogens and the oxygen, let's just imagine that you're the two hydrogens and your soulmate is the oxygen and they come along into your life and now you create something completely different, but you do it together.

Shi:

Kay and I call this with our husbands the team approach. So there's Chad Morris and there was Shila Young to begin but when we came together, we became team Morris and now the kids are on team Morris, and it's transformed. We're part of that team and we're partners in it and it's neat to see that. So, same in the Salerno household, when you and Danny came together, it became team Morris.

Kay:

Team Salerno.

Shi:

I'm sorry, team Salerno and you guys get to operate within that as something different than either one of you are individually. I'm sure as a listener, you guys have these relationships too that you can see have transformed both you and the other person into something different.

Kay:

Now let's flip-flop this example on its head and I can't think of any chemical substances off the top of my head that come together to create something that explodes. But what I do know from chemistry class is that there are plenty of chemicals that if you put close to one another, create a volatile reaction. Now it may be you have had someone in your life in the past that can either create a volatile reaction in you, or you create a volatile reaction in them. It's also very similar here that if there's any reaction, both are transformed. He doesn't say for the better or the worse, just that both are transformed. So, understanding that if you get a chemical substance that is around you that isn't being constructive aka a toxic person in your life. That the further or the longer you stay with them the harder the bond chemically and emotionally, and physically will be to break. So, like Carl Jung tells us, "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."

Shi:

Before I give you the quest, I just have to say, and I could be completely wrong. I think when hydrogen and oxygen come together, that it is an explosion.

Kay:

When it's one, in one.

Shi:

Then don't you get water out of it?

Kay:

Two in one.

Shi:

Gets water, but it's still an explosion. That's how they power rockets. The thing that comes out of the rocket is they're putting hydrogen and oxygen together to make the big explosion and water shoots out the bottom.

Kay:

Well, I did not know that.

Shi:

I'm pretty sure. That could be cooked up craziness, but I'm pretty sure it is correct. That'll bring us to our Thoughtful Thursday Quest today. We want you to transform yourself today through making the effort to truly connect with at least one other person and bonus points if there's someone you don't know super well. Just a little connection time with someone you don't know super well, you can achieve this quest today. Are you ready? Come on now..

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
