The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – July 2nd, 2021 Show Notes

Kay:

Alrighty, everybody. It is another fabulous Friday. Today is July 2nd. Can’t believe we’re already two days into the second half of the year. This is episode 390 and we have a quote from a civil rights icon, someone you likely know very well, Ms. Rosa Parks.

Shi:

She tells us, “Knowing what must be done does away with fear.”

Kay:

Oooh. Now that’s a solid, solid quote because what I love about this is that I think she’s talking really about how there can be a lot of stress, fear, and anxiety around indecision.

Shi:

Yup indecision and what is unknown and being unsure of what next step to take or what the right thing is. But knowing means being decisive, it means having conviction and assurance and truly just that knowing that something is right. Once you know that you kind of cut yourself off from that indecision, from the gray areas. You know what you’re headed towards, you know the steps you have to take, (it doesn’t mean that they aren’t still scary), but you can get away with the fear from knowing what must be done.

Kay:

Right and if you know what must be done, and you have that clear picture, you can at least put one foot in front of the other toward your goals even if it might get you in trouble. Now, if you aren’t familiar with Rosa Parks, she is very famous for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott, where she refused to give up her seat in the front of the bus and famously was arrested for that. What an incredible story of someone who had a task that could have been very scary ahead of her, but charged forward anyway, and did so because she knew what had to be done in order to gain the outcome that she was looking for, which meant that she was going to go do scary things, but she knew that ahead of time and so it took out the mystery. Sometimes we feel fearful about something that’s coming up or a meeting or a big deadline or something but there’s so much less fear..For instance, we recently were working on some negotiation contracts and agreements and things, and I got extremely fearful and stressed out and anxious because I didn’t know what needed to be done. I didn’t have that deep, internal knowing what was right, knowing what the next step was, and because there was that gray matter, that not understanding what needed to come next, I got really fearful and ended up getting everyone up in a fury around me because I had so much, indecision and no clarity around what needed to be done. So, I love this quote here from Rosa Parks and wanted to just share a fun fact with you guys today about July 2nd that has absolutely nothing to do with Rosa Parks.

Kay:

That’s a surprise to me too. Kay here. I am on the edge of my seat.

Shi:

Alright. Well, three days ago, if you were listening you heard that it was Chad and I’s 15 year wedding anniversary, but the fun fact for you today is that July 2nd was the date of our first date, 17 years ago and so we have an internal agreement that if we’re ever faced in that situation where there are two copies of Chad in front of me, and one’s the robot that’s evil and one’s the real Chad, then I’ll ask them what’s the real anniversary and it will be July 2nd, not June 30th. So now you guys know as well, please don’t make the evil robot Chad, and put me in that position.

Kay:

If anybody here is in cohorts with the evil robot Chad, I would suggest that you do not allow him to listen to this episode, so he does not gain that password. But you know what, at least he would know what to do, and he would likely come at you and do it without fear.

Shi:

Probably. So, to remind you today of what Ms. Rosa Parks, the first lady of civil rights and the mother of the freedom movement tells us, “Knowing what must be done does away with fear.”

Kay:

Alrighty, guys that means we have a Friday Fearless Quest today. Today we want you to do away with fear by deciding on what needs to be done. What’s one thing that you’ve been worried about lately? Just choose the direction. Once you choose and the worry and the wishy-washy, it’ll go away. It’ll ease up some of your anxiety to make that decision and get a drafted blueprint for maybe how you can move forward from here. We promise you; you don’t have to be fearless, but this will help you fear less. Are you ready? You know what to say?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
