The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap - July 29th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey, Questers - welcome back! It's Wednesday, July 29th, and this is Episode 148! We have a Plato quote for you today, and, he says, “Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it.”

Shi:

Such a great concept here, which has obviously been passed down from one of the great philosophers and achievers of the BC times. And, isn't this just such an old school quote?! Like, nowadays, quotes are like shiny and they try to use language that connects with the youth and stuff. But, nope - not here! We're talking *(Shi reads robotically)*, "Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it"...Thanks Plato!

Kay:

But, this is some legit advice! You know, what I think is funny about this is that, even in BC times, they knew that the ouch potato life was not a good life for human beings. So, this is not a new way of thinking, but, I think what sets this quote apart is that "lack of activity" piece. Because, although Plato says, "movement and physical exercise save it and preserve it," we're not just talking about straight up physical exercise. We're talking about movement, forward movement, and purpose, too! Which is why, oftentimes, when people retire and just go into doing nothing, that we actually start seeing a decline in their mental and physical abilities.

Shi:

Well, breaking this quote down even further, he kind of gives us some cool contrast here. So, the subject is the GOOD condition of every human being, not the physical condition. And, clearly, what we're primarily talking about here is that physical condition, but the good condition of every human being holistically is going to include that emotional component, that relationship component, that spiritual component, that goal achieving component, that giving back component, and SO much more! And so, we've got the contrast of lack of activity destroying that activity in those goals, in those relationships, and in that spiritual journey, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it!

Kay:

Is Plato preaching...consistency?!

Shi:

Ah, it's like the OG piece of human advice!

Kay:

Like, are you a human being? Then, consistency will work for you! Oh my goodness, I feel like we should do some kind of a commercial, like *(Kay say’s in best “infomercial” voice)*, "Are you a human being looking for success? Consistency will work for you!"

Shi:

"Have you considered consistency compounding in your life?"

Kay:

“Ask your coach about consistency!”

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Kay:

Oh my God, that’s too funny! But, we love this quote because we have seen improvements physically - both in our business and in our spiritual lives - through methodical movement. In fact, I was just telling Shila earlier today that I have really established a nice meditation practice for myself, especially in these last 90 days. And, in the last three or four days, I haven't gotten quite as much as I would have liked to - which really compounded for me just this morning. And so, I woke up tired and feeling down. I didn't want to go and read first thing in the morning. Usually, I want to just jam in and start reading first thing in the morning, but this morning I got distracted on social media...I went right over to the news...Like, Shi - how often do I look at headlines?!...Like, that NEVER happens! And so, feeling that lack of activity without that methodical exercise of meditation, really was like backsliding, if you will, from that solid habit I have been building around more peaceful thinking.

Shi:

I'm so proud that you've been able to do that and have loved hearing you talk about carving out that time in the morning for that meditation practice, and being able to bring that better condition to your human being, which is expressed outwardly in so many ways! It seems like you're more grounded throughout the day, and that you're not so emotionally volatile or susceptible to passionate fits...if you will ;)

Kay:

They've gotten better over the last like three years!

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Shi:

They have! And, it's because you've methodically worked at it, just like Plato tells us to do here in this quote. And, to remind you of what the quote is from Plato, "Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it."

Kay:

All right, gang! That means that today is a #WorkoutWednesday quest! So, get out there and do some physical activity, with the intention of cultivating a good condition for your human being. Because, you are a human! So, might as well work towards getting yourself some better conditions under which to live! Are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let's quest!
