The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – July 16th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey, hey, there Questers, and welcome to a very special Mentorship Quest episode! It is July 16th, which means today is the anniversary of the day that I, Kay Salerno, was born!

Shi:

Correct! It is Kay’s 28th birthday, so please join me – from wherever you are in the world right now – in wishing Kay a happy, Happy Birthday!

Kay:

For God’s sake just don’t sing me the song!

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Shi:

We have a new rule now – after having my birthday where we got sung, Happy Birthday, not once, but twice over Zoom…

Kay:

Three times I think was the total!

Shi:

A tool that you can put in your pocket…If it’s your birthday, and someone tries to sing to you on Zoom…just tell them, “Okay! But the challenge is that everyone has to sing it as fast as they can!”…Because, gang, it is painfully slow…

Kay:

SO painfully slow when you have like a hundred people trying to sing,Happy Birthday on Zoom…but…we digress. Today’s quote is one of my all time favorites, and it is a quote that has literally been imprinted on my heart since I was a child! The quote comes from the movie Cinderella. And, Cinderella says, “No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.”

Shi:

Now, Kay, I hope that when we do the recap of that quote, you’ll sing it to us because you are a beautiful singer and this is a beautiful quote. And, you know, we loved Cinderella growing up. And so, it was really no surprise that for your birthday quote, you picked this one!

Kay:

You’re even wearing the shirt today!

Shi:

I am wearing a Disney shirt today!

Kay:

It says, “A dream is a wish your heart makes.”

Shi:

Soooo…we like Disney! And, there’s really no better quote for Kay’s day, considering that Cinderella was always your favorite princess growing up, and one of our favorite movies to watch. And, this is a beautiful quote because it talks about that Disney-esque magic where a fairy godmother can come and solve everything. But, it also indicates this is about a level of conviction, and about a level of testing faith, and about the fact that it’s easy to believe in things when they’re good, but it’s harder in moments of grief of tragedy – and that’s when your faith is really tested – and the time when you can see how much conviction you really have…

Kay:

Right? Well, belief really does come down to faith. AKA: Do I have full faith that something is true, or not? I mean, the definition of belief is to accept something as true. And, we accept all kinds of things in this world as true, without inspecting it first…The amount of stuff we accept without inspecting is pretty incredible. I mean, think about how long we thought the earth was flat…

Shi:

Some people still do…

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Kay:

I saw such a funny YouTube video, that shows this evolution of thinking. And, it just shows the inner dialogue of a cartoon character saying, “The earth is flat….The earth might not be flat guys…Oh my God, the earth isn’t flat…I used to be a flat earther!” And, the video was sort of documenting this person’s story into this journey, but there’s all kinds of things like this! I mean, a lot of people are now finding out that Jesus was actually born in March, and that it’s just more convenient for us to celebrate in December, based off of the holidays that already existed. And so, there are all kinds of things that we believe that might not necessarily be true. So, what could the harm be in believing in the wish that literally comes out of your own heart?!

Shi:

Yes. Preach it! I love that! And, the concept behind this quote here is helping us really be encouraged. So many quotes boil down to this comforting, encouraging notion that hard stuff happens…That life is tough…That things don’t always go your way…That failure – however you define it – is a friend to us ALL, and that it’s in these moments of downtime that so many of us give up and give away the dream, or let go of the thing you think you’re not worthy of – but that’s just not the truth! And so, it’s a good, old fashioned encouragement quote said in a beautifully Disneyfied package (actually SUNG in a beautiful Disney package) from one of our favorite princesses (who is really the epitome of a grieving heart who continues to believe that her wish will come true)…And then, when she thinks all is lost, and she’s crying to her fairy godmother, and she’s saying, “I just have no more belief. I have no more hope.” And, the fairy godmother says, “Well, you have to have a little cause I’m here.”

Kay & Shi:

*(Laughter)*

Kay:

Well, I love that Cinderella keeps that faith in her heart all the way up until that moment – so that she really gets to see her dream come true and she didn’t get disgruntled. And then, through all the things that happened to her, she kept believing. So, just to remind you of this quote for you today, Cinderella does say that (*Kay sings*), “No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.”

Shi:

I hope everyone’s eyes are as welled up as mine are right now…You have such a beautiful voice, Kay! So, Happy Birthday to you today! As your older sister, I love you, and appreciate you SO much. And, I’m so proud of you in so many different ways. All right, gang, your quest for the day is a birthday quest, and it is also a two fold quest! Your first part of the quest is: Time to make a wish on an evening star. The very first one that you see, suspend your disbelief – even for just one night – and make a wish on a star. And, part two is to: Go wish Kay a Happy Birthday! Whether you are part of our “Living Your Quest Life” Facebook group or not, you can either wish her a Happy Birthday in there – on today’s post – on our public Facebook – OR on our Instagram page! We hope that you’ll join me in celebrating Kay, and all of her greatness, as she turns 28 today!…So, are you ready?

Kay & Shi:

Let’s quest!
