The Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap – December 9th, 2020 Show Notes

Kay:

Hey there Questers and welcome back. It’s hump day, December 9th, and this is episode 243. We have a Jung quote for you today.

Shi:

It’s a classic. It’s a good one.

Kay:

Yep, Carl says…

Shi:

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

Kay:

So, quick sidebar here, gang, this is pretty much the corniest and most overused psychology quote of all time, but this isn’t a corny quest. And so, we’re going to take this because while it is super corny and overused, this quote has some solid advice.

Shi:

It does. For all of us, there are certain industries that you’re in, or quotes or isms that you hear a lot and so they become a little eye-rolly to you. A good example is we were in a marketing presentation about a year ago. It was last summer, and the presenter said…It was a sales presentation. It wasn’t a marketing presentation. I mean, we were being sold to for advertising on a news channel. But he said, “How do you eat an elephant?” And we were like…

Kay and Shi:

Oh my gosh!

Shi:

…and he’s like, I don’t know if you guys have ever heard this. This is a saying in Illinois where I’m from, but you eat an elephant one bite at a time. We’re like, are you kidding me, dude? Everyone’s heard that, but you know what? Half the people in that meeting room we’re like, “ohhhhh.”

Kay:

And wrote it down and were really impacted by it.

Shi:

So, I hope that right now you are not eye-rolling. I hope that you are one of the people who are ‘oh’-ing. You’ve never heard this quote before, and maybe you have, but you’re ready to hear it in a new way. “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” This is the kind of ism of the industry that we’re in because it’s that foundation of realization. That raising your consciousness level of becoming more aware of bringing awareness to your life and to your results and to your ultimate role in them, is the whole deal. It’s the whole enchilada and it starts right here.

Kay:

Okay, gang. So, we got a real-life mentorship example for you. I want to just go ahead and apologize for saying puke on this quote because maybe you’ve never heard it before. Just because it’s overused in my industry doesn’t mean that it’s overused in yours. This unconscious moment has now become conscious to me and I will not allow that kind of belief to direct my fate in the future.

Shi:

Wouldn’t you just love to hang out with us for a little while? because we are literally like this all of the time! We’re so obsessed with mentorship and with growth and with bringing you the lessons that we learned. So that was a real moment that we would have with the camera and the mikes were rolling or not. That is exactly such a great example because even something as small as making an assumption about a quote is an unconscious act. If you come from a higher level of awareness, you might not make an assumption like that. So, you can see how this is not something you learn once, and then you are now conscious. Consciousness is not a switch, it’s definitely a gradient and so our goal is to move higher and higher up on that gradient.

Kay:

Well, one of the ways that you do move higher and higher up on that gradient is by continually facing things in your unconscious in order to challenge and change them. Now, Kay, here, I’m just going to raise my hand and say, I have had such a hard time with this over my life because feedback doesn’t always feel good and I’ve gotten a lot better over the years at taking it. But four years ago, I mean, it was hard for me to accept unconscious being made conscious. I took it very personally. When I would find the patterns in my life that I didn’t agree with or that I didn’t like and then say, “oh, I have to change,” that I would take it personally and feel like it was a personal attack on my personality and it’s not. This is why psychologists and therapists take people back to their childhood experiences because they’re looking to find the root of whatever unconscious pattern could be playing itself out in a person’s life today.

Shi:

Another great example I can think of is when we went to Date with Destiny. We did a values exercise, a values discovery exercise, and realized that we had been unconsciously making decisions with the values set that we had that was just unconscious. It was by default. It was just what we had adapted as kids. Then, you might be hearing and thinking you value honesty, you value love, and you value passion. Everybody values these things but in what order and what degree is different and makes a lot of difference. So, this process of going through and realizing, okay, listing out the values that you currently have through a whole two-day process. That’s so deep and amazing. We would highly recommend it. But looking at the list and realizing, “I don’t know if that’s necessarily congruent with the person that I want to become and the goals that I want to achieve,” and then making it conscious by choosing a new set or reordering the set that you have so that you can now move forward at a higher vibration, with more awareness, more consciousness, and more energy…that’s when you can really make that your fate, rather than those unconscious biases.

Kay:

We will say that one year later, we are definitely vibrating more in line both with the women that we want to be and that we see emerging in our future. So, just a reminder on this not so cliche quote that might be super impactful for you. “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

Shi:

Alright, it’s a consciousness quest. Say that five times fast, consciousness quest, consciousness quest…

Kay:

Hey, you did pretty good!

Shi:

…consciousness quest. Alright, consciousness quest. It’s a consciousness quest game in case you didn’t get that memo. We want you to take five minutes to meditate today, and Kay and I like to call this ohming out, So, go ohm out and connect with your consciousness today. Listen closely now. What is your consciousness calling you to do next? Are you ready?

Kay and Shi:

Let’s quest!
