A Daily Scroll: A Mentorship Recap - December 21st, 2021 - Show Notes

Kay:

Hello, Questers, and welcome back. It's Tuesday, December 21st which means it's your winter solstice. We're also going to sing to you ‘five golden rings.’ This is episode 492. We have five short days until the wonderful Christmas, but today is special in its own right as it is the winter solstice.

Shi:

Wow! That means that we've got the least amount of light, the longest amount of darkness, the day that culminates the extreme of those two then we begin our march back towards longer days, shorter nights. Let's start off with our quote today and it comes from the Irish playwright, critic, and political activist George Bernard Shaw.

Kay:

George tells us, "Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."

Shi:

Love this turn of phrase that Shaw brings forward here and love this kind of idea because lots of us have heard the colloquialism of finding yourself and this idea of going out there and finding yourself and finding who you are and who you're meant to be and what your destiny is. That's a lot of pressure and it actually leads you on a wild goose chase because what every spiritual master through the ages has told us is that your self is not out there, it's actually inside. And that's why George Bernard tells us, "Life is about creating yourself."

Kay:

I think it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that life is about finding yourself when we hear of great heroes and tales who leave on a voyage, have a great adventure, and return a completely new human being with a sense of purpose. But when we look at great adventures or voyages like that, oftentimes our hero isn't necessarily finding the gumption, the will, or the internal growth that they experience during the final battle. Usually, they are growing along the way, their journey has a culmination period, and then they return home. But the growth happens in the creation process of getting them ready for that final moment.

Shi:

When you think to the quests of the ages, that the kind of tale that he is talking about is typically something that comes out of necessity or danger, and the hero has to go on this journey in order to address that danger. The hero never embarks on the great journey because they're going to go find themselves. They're going for some major thing and in that process of that, they find themselves, which is where they create themselves through what they experience and the choices that they make.

If you're going to make the most of what you get then wasting time out there looking for something when you have the power all along to create and that's made in the image of God. It's the beauty that all of us are gifted with is this ability to have some influence and some creative sway in what happens and that spotlight of awareness that we're all gifted. You get to be behind the control panel of that and swing the spotlight to shine on whatever it is that you want it to, or that you tell it to you. You don't always necessarily want to be looking at what you're looking at, but sometimes you've got to, or sometimes you're in the habit of doing it and you don't realize, and you could be swinging it all over trying to find that growth or that hero inside.

Kay:

Yep. Because when you're aiming aimlessly, ultimately, you're not taking that control of creating yourself. You're allowing yourself to get molded by whatever circumstance comes across you. So, just absolutely adored this quote on a day when some real focus on creating yourself in this next year can be extremely helpful to you. We're at the changing of the season. We are at an energetic turning of the tide. Not like woo-woo energy, but magnetism energy turning of the tide as our poles begin to shift once again and we move into the summer seasons. So, this is your opportunity to plant some seeds because like George Bernard Shaw tells us, "Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."

Shi:

Well, on the winter solstice it's the perfect day for this crafted quest for you today. Do these three things with intent. Create some time for movement, create some space for meditation, and create the opportunity to reflect on what's passed this year. Are you ready?

Kay:

Let's quest!
